Target Area
BDC is located in Tassia, Embakasi Division in the capital city of Kenya, Nairobi. Embakasi is one of the fastest- developing divisions in Kenya. Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, the main airport of Nairobi is located in Embakasi. According to Kenya's 2019 Census, Embakasi Sub- County recorded the highest population in Nairobi with 988,808 people.
Tassia location faces a myriad of challenges that affect the day-to-day living of the people residing there, including its immediate neighborhoods which are predominantly slums. The challenges have hit hard mostly on women and the youth. In the circumstances, the church has an ordinal role to play in shaping the morals of the affected people, bringing them back into the fold of Jesus Christ through evangelism of the good news, making them Disciples of Christ, who are equipped and empowered to serve God.
Tassia estate and the neighbouring slums due to extreme levels of poverty exposing children to sexual abuse, rise in child trafficking, child labour where majority of minors are engaged in drug trafficking and sex trade, exposure to alcohol and substance at an early stage leading to drug addiction and alcohol addiction.
This has seen an upsurge in broken families and school dropouts.
Neema Operation Objective
Neema Operations is the arm of BDC ministry that is mandated to not only offer benevolence but also provide personal development to the people it deals with to bring about a long-lasting impact in people's lives.
The Bible states, that if someone is in need of clothing it is not just enough to wish them warmth but rather to be practical and give them a coat. The same goes for food
and many other needs. We realize just one coat may not last as long to keep someone warm, but it is a step in the right direction. It is a means to an end. It will sustain the person as they learn how to 'make' their own coat. It is with this view that we have both short term and long-term goals in the Neema
Operations. The short-term goals aim to sustain the individual as they are in their journey to bettering their lives.
